What is DHEA ?
DHEA is a hormone (dehydroepiandosterone) made by the
adrenal glands. It is converted into androgen and estrogen in
the cells. Whether it is converted into androgen (male hormone) or
estrogen (female hormone) depends on the person’s own sex, age,
individual condition, and other individual factors.
Some
researchers have found that taking antioxidants with DHEA yields better results.
DHEA circulates in the body mainly in its
water-soluble form: DHEA sulfate (DHEA-S) which can be
easily measured by
saliva
test.
What does DHEA do ?
Apart from its role as precursor of the sex hormones, DHEA is
in opposite relation with the production of corticosteroid hormones,
which are produced by the suprarenal glands in reaction to stress.
However, stress is an essential factor of the decline of DHEA starting
at 30 years of age, which is accompanied by an increase of
susceptibility to diseases, which goes hand in hand with the acceleration of ageing.
Who should take
DHEA ?
Most people over 30 years old have DHEA levels well
below those only a few years prior.
For many of these people, DHEA supplementation offers the promise of a
more youthful body and an improved life. Past 40 years of age, the DHEA level
is not any higher than half of the optimal level, and over 75 it
declines
from 80% to 90%.
What does DHEA supplementation do for the user ?
The principal benefits of DHEA supplementation are:
-
A significant improvement of the energy level and vitality,
perceptible after a few weeks in 82% of women and 67% of men
(according to a study carried out at the University of San Diego,
California).
-
A stimulation of the immune system which reinforces resistance to diseases.
-
A better resistance to stress.
-
A modulation of the other hormonal functions, which can contribute
in reducing the disorders associated with both female and male
menopause.
-
A
coetaneous
hydration thus improving the production of sebum
(greasy substance allowing the skin to keep its flexibility and to
defend itself against microbial aggressions and the general
environment).
-
A reduction in the pigmentation related with ageing, particular in
the facial area.
-
An improvement of bone tissues (especially in women), beneficial for
the use in prevention of the spontaneous bone fractures in elderly
people.
-
A libido increase (relation frequency, desire, physical or
psychological signs).
Who should not take DHEA ?
-
Individuals under 30 years of age, unless specifically said
otherwise by a physician.
-
Pregnant or nursing women, as well as those wanting to conceive.
-
Individuals suffering of breast or prostate cancer. Additionally,
if you are under treatment for any other condition, get advice from
your physician.
What is the
recommended dosage ?
The optimal dosage varies for each individual. Lifestyle, metabolism,
and medical history all influence the use of this supplement. In
general, it is recommended for women to take 25 mg per day, and 50 mg
for men.
By taking DHEA as a supplement in these quantities for 4 to 6
weeks, it is possible to restore the optimal hormonal levels measured
between the ages of 25 and 30.
But, the best means to know your exact need is the
saliva
test (precise medical method to restore your optimal DHEA level).
DHEA should preferably be taken in the
morning along with breakfast.
Are there side effects ?
Supplementary DHEA, in recommended dosages, causes no notable
secondary effects, and is remarkably safe to use. DHEA has been sold
over the counter in the US for more than 8 years. Tens of millions of
Americans use it daily without any problems.
Can we find natural DHEA ?
No! DHEA is made in laboratories from a saponin of vegetal origin
called diosgenin.
The human body does not have the necessary enzymes to
make this conversion by itself.
The allegations bearing the existence of
products stimulating the production of DHEA naturally are therefore
without any foundations.
What are the results of research on DHEA effects
?
Short term : thousands of studies have been conducted. They
demonstrate without ambiguity that DHEA ameliorates one's vitality and
well being in a spectacular manner, that it reinforces the immunity
system, reduces the discomforts of menopause, and aids in preventing
osteoporosis, as well as ameliorating the neurological functions,
memory, and the quality of the sleeping patterns.
Long term: a large number of other studies is being conducted, of
which the preliminary results demonstrate that DHEA supplementation
affects in a positive manner the organism's response to cancer,
cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, erythematic systemic lupus,
and Alzheimer. These studies will soon verify the basic hypothesis of the
endocrinal theory of aging : many degenerative diseases and
functional deteriorations result in the lowered production of certain
hormones. Hormonal supplementation permits us to stop these problems,
and maybe even inverse them.
How to be sure to obtain a good quality product ?
There are meaningful differences between the various qualities of DHEA
available on the market.
Many products are falsely represented for being
the precursors of DHEA although they cannot in any way influence the
levels of DHEA present in the organism.
Our DHEA is a guarantied
pharmaceutical product of a purity superior to 99.5%.
